Tyre Changers for UHP, SUV & Runflat: What You Need
The UHP, SUV and runflat tyre segment is growing steadily. Vehicles with very low-profile tyres (35-series and lower), wide SUV tyres up to 26-inch rim sizes and runflat tyres with self-supporting sidewalls are now commonplace in many workshops. For this segment, standard tyre changers are often no longer sufficient.
What is the problem with UHP and runflat tyres?
UHP tyres have extremely stiff sidewalls that offer enormous resistance when being pulled over the rim edge. Runflat tyres with self-supporting sidewalls are even stiffer – they often cannot be mounted with basic changers without damaging the tyre or the rim. Specialist assistance systems such as motorised bead pushers and controlled mounting arms are essential for these tyre types.
Which features are particularly important for UHP/SUV tyre changers?
The key features are: a swivelling, motorised bead pusher for gentle bead contact, a rim-friendly polyurethane mounting head, a sufficiently large turntable with a gentle surface, and good force control for controlled pressure on the tyre.
