Drive-on ramps for vehicle lifts: function, designs & tips
When driving onto a 4-post lift, the transition from the floor to the platform is critical. Without a ramp, a step is created that can cause damage on lowered or spoiler-equipped vehicles. Drive-on ramps bridge this step gently, allowing safe, scratch-free entry.
Which drive-on ramp is right for my lift?
Choosing the right drive-on ramp depends on the height of the lift platform and the ground clearance of your vehicle. Standard cars are usually fine with simple steel ramps at a medium angle. For low-slung sports cars or vehicles with a spoiler lip, shallower angles or plastic ramps are recommended. For vans and larger vehicles, wider versions are advisable.
What should I watch out for during installation and use?
Drive-on ramps should always sit flush on the lift platform and must not slip. Many models are secured with locking pins or clips. Check that the ramp is securely fitted before each use. The maximum axle load specified by the manufacturer must not be exceeded. If you’re unsure about suitability, we’re happy to advise you.
