Standard Car Wheel Balancers: Technology and Selection
Standard car wheel balancers are the best-selling segment in tyre service equipment. Almost every car workshop with tyre service needs one – and for the vast majority of car customers, a good standard balancer is perfectly sufficient.
What does a standard car balancer do?
A standard car balancer measures the imbalance of a mounted wheel through a single measurement process (spinning the wheel on the machine). The system then calculates the position and weight of the required balancing weights – separately for the inner and outer rim face. Modern balancers offer additional functions such as automatic rim measurement, ALU mode for alloy wheels and printout of results.
What are the key differences between models?
The main differences between balancer models are: measurement accuracy and repeatability, speed of the measurement process, ease of use (touchscreen vs buttons, automatic vs manual rim measurement) and the breadth of special functions. For businesses with high throughput or a demanding customer segment, a model with more comfort functions is worth the investment.
