4-post lifts and parking lifts for the workshop

Stable construction, fast lifting times and maximum ease of use - for cars to light trucks. – from OMCN or AMI

Rely on maximum precision, stability and safe load carrying – ideal for inspection, maintenance, repairs and wheel alignment on heavy vehicles. Our 4-post lifts from proven manufacturers offer high load capacities, comfortable accessibility and a robust, durable construction - from cars to vans to buses and trucks. Our experts are there for you by phone or email.

Which 4-post lift suits my company?

4-post lifts score points with high stability, intuitive handling and precise positioning. They enable precise measurements – ideal for test lanes and heavy vehicles. Which version is suitable is determined by the vehicle mix, hall height and surface: suitable load capacities from 3.5 to 12 t+, suitable roadway lengths and widths (e.g. 5100 mm, optionally extra wide), roadways suitable for surveying and wheel-free jacks as well as a synchronously running, usually electro-hydraulic drive. We rely on established manufacturers with solid steel construction, reliable safety locks and maintenance-friendly construction – for a long service life and rapid cost-effectiveness. Please contact us by phone or email for a personal recommendation.

How does a 4-post lift work?

A 4-column lift carries the vehicle over two continuous rails, which are guided by four pillars and lifted synchronously via ropes or chains. This ensures high stability, large load capacities and an absolutely flat platform - ideal for diagnostics, service and testing work.

Axle free jacks can be used for additional flexibility. These movable lifting units raise an axle so that the wheels hang freely and work on brakes, tires or wheel bearings is possible without any problems. In addition, there are wheel-free jacks that are integrated directly into the rails. These scissor jacks can raise the entire vehicle again so that all four wheels are free at the same time - perfect for extensive chassis or tire work.

For wheel alignment, 4-column lifts also offer integrated turntables, sliding plates and a precisely flat support surface for precise measurements. In contrast, a parking lift is primarily used for static parking of vehicles and is less designed for service access, wheel clearance and surveying accessories. The workshop 4-column platform, on the other hand, is specially optimized for daily maintenance use, tests and precise wheel alignments.

Frequently asked questions

What foundation and anchoring requirements are necessary?

A stable, load-bearing base is required for assembling a 4-post lift. A flat, crack-free concrete floor with at least strength class C20/25 and a slab thickness of at least 20 cm is common. Observe the manufacturer's foundation plan.

What ceiling height is required?

The required ceiling height depends on the lifting distance of the respective platform. For typical 4-pillar models, a room height of at least 3.5 m is recommended so that vehicles can be raised completely. For higher vehicles or special applications, 4.0 m and more must be planned.

What load capacity do I need?

The required load capacity and platform length depend on your vehicle mix and the planned work. For pure passenger cars, 3.5–4.0 t is usually enough; 4.5-6.5 t makes sense with vans/SUVs, 7.5-12 t+ for heavy commercial vehicles. In short: choose according to the maximum wheelbase and vehicle weight of your customer segment.

Which platform length makes sense?

When selecting the platform length, the guideline is that short cars need around 4.2 to 4.6 meters. Station wagons, SUVs and vans are usually between 4.8 and 5.3 meters. For vehicles with a long wheelbase or light trucks, a platform length of around 5.5 meters is recommended. In addition, attention should be paid to the platform width, as many models are also available in an extra wide version. Basically, it is advisable to choose the platform one level larger in order to have sufficient reserves for future vehicle types or longer wheelbases.

How wide are 4-post lifts?

The dimensions of a 4-post lift differ depending on the version. Typically, the total width is around 300-360 cm, and the usable road width for the vehicle is around 200 cm. There are extra wide versions for vans and trucks.

What are parking lifts?

A parking lift is a simple version of a 4-post lift that is primarily used to park vehicles in a space-saving manner - not for repair or maintenance work. It has two stable driving rails for access, mechanical locks and access ramps. In contrast to a workshop platform, the design, equipment and lifting cycles are designed for parking operations and not for intensive, continuous use in the service area. A parking lift can be used to raise one vehicle so that a second one can be parked underneath. There are also variants with two levels, which enable up to three vehicles to be accommodated in a single space.

Can the width of the driving surfaces be changed?

Many 4-post lifts offer the option of adjusting the width of the driving surfaces. This means that vehicles with different track widths can be safely accommodated. This is particularly important when measuring wheels, as the wheels must be exactly centered on the rails in order to obtain precise measurements.

For what types of work is the 4-post lift not suitable?

A 4-post lift is only partially suitable for changing tires. Although the wheels can be changed, the vehicle has to be raised separately on the stage, which slows down the work process significantly and makes it inefficient. Even with a lot of body work, the four pillars and the continuous rails often get in the way, so that access to side panels, sills or certain areas of the underbody is restricted.

As a rule, a 4-post lift requires a 400 V three-phase connection. However, there are also versions that can be operated with 230 V. In these models, the house fuse must be designed accordingly, as the hydraulic unit has a comparatively high starting current and a fuse that is too weak can quickly reach its limits.

The platforms are synchronized using steel cables that are guided over deflection pulleys and connect the individual columns with each other. If these ropes are correctly tensioned and adjusted, the platform always lifts evenly and straight, without any crookedness.

Yes, but only with an additional axle free jack or a wheel free jack that is integrated into the rails. Only then will the vehicle be lifted off the driving surface and the wheels will hang free so that tire or brake work can be carried out.

Turntable and sliding plates for measurement, integrated wheel-free jacks, LED underfloor lighting, road extensions, wider roadways, drip trays, as well as interfaces to the test bench and camera system.

For commissioning you need the operating instructions, the EC/CE certificate and a test book. These documents are mandatory and must be included with the lift.

Use approved heavy-duty anchors according to the manufacturer's instructions (diameter, embedment depth, edge distances). The subsurface must be stable, free of cracks and sufficiently strong. The anchors can be screwed in or glued in. You can find the corresponding fastening material in our shop.

Depending on the model, a 16 A slow-blow fuse at 400 V or a C 20 fuse at 230 V is typically required. It is important to always follow the manufacturer's connection diagram and local regulations, as these are binding and may vary depending on the installation.

The hydraulic oil specified in the manual should be used, for example HLP 32 or HLP 46, depending on the manufacturer's specifications. The filling quantity also depends on the manufacturer's instructions. The oil level should be checked regularly with the platform fully lowered. Oil and filters must be changed according to the maintenance schedule to ensure trouble-free operation.

Typically, the warranty is 12 to 24 months and covers material and manufacturing defects. The prerequisite for warranty claims is professional assembly, intended use and timely maintenance of the lift. Since the warranty is manufacturer-specific, look for the corresponding information on the product.

As a rule, you will receive the platform including the unit, running surfaces, ropes as well as the complete documentation and CE documents. Anchors, hydraulic oil and electrical cables are often optional depending on the model and provider and may have to be ordered separately.
