Lifting Equipment in the Workshop: What You Need and Why

Every professional workshop needs mobile lifting devices for specific tasks in addition to the stationary vehicle lift. No workshop crane can replace a vehicle lift – and vice versa. The right combination of stationary lift and mobile lifting aids makes workshop life more efficient and safer.

What distinguishes the different lifting devices from each other?

Floor jacks quickly raise individual vehicle sides or axles – ideal for fast tyre changes or brief underbody work. Axle stands secure the vehicle in the raised position – indispensable when working under the vehicle without a lift. Workshop cranes enable pulling out engines, gearboxes and other heavy components. Transmission jacks assist the installation and removal of gearboxes and axles precisely and with minimal physical effort.

How much load capacity does my floor jack need?

As a rule of thumb: choose a floor jack with at least half the load capacity of the heaviest vehicle you want to lift with it – because you typically only ever lift one side of the vehicle. For cars, floor jacks with 2 to 3 tonnes are sufficient; for vans and light commercial vehicles you should choose 3 to 5 tonnes; for HGVs correspondingly more.
