Hydraulic pumps are the "heart" of every hydraulic system. They generate the hydraulic pressure that is then converted into mechanical force in the cylinder or actuator. The choice of the right pump depends on the required pressure capacity, the necessary oil flow rate and the available energy sources.
What is the difference between single-acting and double-acting pumps?
Single-acting hydraulic pumps generate pressure in one direction – cylinder extension is by pump force, retraction by a spring or the weight of the load. Double-acting pumps can control pressure in both directions – the cylinder can be actively extended and retracted. The latter are necessary for applications where the cylinder needs to exert force in both directions.
Hydraulic hand pump or pneumatic pump – which is better?
Hydraulic hand pumps are flexible as they require no external energy source (other than human force) – ideal for occasional use and mobile deployment. Pneumatic hydraulic pumps use compressed air for actuation, enabling fast and effortless pumping even with large oil volumes. For frequent use in stationary workshops with a compressed air connection, they are the preferred choice.
