Workshop Cranes: Technology, Use and Buying Recommendations
A workshop crane is an indispensable tool for any business that regularly carries out engine or gearbox work. It enables pulling out heavy assemblies from the engine bay without placing excessive physical strain on workshop staff. At the same time it provides the precision needed for correctly reinserting the components.
How is a workshop crane used correctly?
The crane is attached to the assembly to be lifted using suitable lifting attachments and chain hoists. The vehicle is then positioned on the lift so the crane can be moved under the engine bay or underbody. The assembly is raised using the hydraulic pump and rolled out of the vehicle on the crane's wheels. For installation, the process is carried out in reverse order.
What should I look for when buying a workshop crane?
Important: sufficient load capacity (heaviest engine or assembly in the business plus margin), sufficiently long boom for good balance point when lifting out, stable rolling mobility for safe positioning, and a good footprint for stability during lifting. OMCN workshop cranes are among our recommended models – for their well-known quality from Italy.
