This safety nut is the safeguard element in the spindle drive of the FOG 449 lift. It runs below the lifting nut on the lifting spindle with Tr 45x5 trapezoidal thread and carries no load during normal operation. If the lifting nut wears out or fails, the safety nut takes over the load and holds the carriage securely in position. The gap between lifting nut and safety nut serves as a wear indicator and must be checked at every inspection; when the lifting nut is replaced, the safety nut should be renewed as well.
